Thursday, January 14, 2021 - The year began on a good note as twelve (12) students of One Precious Life (OPL) Academy were awarded Level 2 IVQ Technician Certificates in Construction from the prestigious City and Guilds of London Institute, with two students earning distinctions in all papers.

OPL Academy is an employment accelerator for construction workers in Nigeria. Every quarter it organizes a Tradesman/woman Empowerment Program (TEP), which sources for high potential blue-collar construction workers, trains them for the workplace by building their professional ethics, digital literacy and technical skills, and subsequently connects them to jobs.

At the end of the 2019 academic year, OPL Academy enrolled its top 12 graduating students in the City and Guilds training program, which was generously sponsored by the African Capital Alliance Foundation.

The chosen students spanned across various trades including electricals, masonry, plumbing and carpentry. Their names include Abdulwahab Akanbi, Afeez Kolawole, Azeez Ajala, Busayo Soladoye, Christopher Fasoyin, David Poopla, Idris Agboola, Nisha Sunday, Olarewaju Yesufa, Pelumi Shotayo, Rahamon Jajiy, Temidayo Oluyeni. Out of the students who passed the examinations, Afeez Kolawole and Azeez Ajala earned all distinctions.

I am so elated to be afforded such an opportunity as I came out with distinction in the final assessment. The training elaborated more on the core competence in building construction which I believe will fit perfectly into the talent demand of Nigeria's construction industry. I cannot but thank the management of One Precious Life Academy for this wonderful opportunity. I believe with effective management and technical expertise, we can make Nigeria a better nation. Afeez Kolawole said.

Olawale David Popoola another beneficiary of the City & Guilds of London training commented;

Acquisition of the City and Guilds certificate will definitely create a platform for growth in my career. It simply means that I possess the requisite skills and abilities needed to excel in my vocation having been certified by an International body.

The CEO of OPL Academy, Oare Ehiemua, expressing her delight with the outcome of the initiative stated “We are extremely proud of our scholarship recipients who successfully trained for and sat for the City and Guilds examination. We had a 100% success rate with two of the students earning distinctions. This goes to show that the possibilities are endless when high potential artisans are given access to the right opportunities. We look forward to continuing this important work with the African Capital Alliance Foundation and our other partners as we seek to raise the standard of skills in the construction industry.”
