Fundamentals of Joinery and Furniture Making

This course is structured to offer a foundational understanding of joinery and furniture making. It delves into measurement, uses of power tools and machines, types of joints, cutting joints, cutting and shaping, wood selection, assembly and finishing, design, glue and assembly, and upholstery. This comprehensive curriculum equips learners with the knowledge necessary for theoretical and practical applications within furniture making.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, the trainees should be able to:

  • Design and plan furniture projects 

  • Understand fundamental joinery techniques 

  • Recognize and use various joinery tools 

  • Cut and assemble joints accurately 

  • Select and prepare wood and materials 

  • Construct and assemble furniture pieces

  • Apply finishing techniques

  • Troubleshoot and repair furniture issues 

  • Understand ergonomics and functionality 

  • Develop a portfolio of furniture-making projects

Training Requirement

  • Science background or technical experience is an added advantage

  • 18 years and above
